the story of crumbuns...
All of her creations are a labour of love in tribute to baker and store owner, Joanne Emberson’s Granny, Anne Emberson. “When I was younger and my grandmother was in the hospital, I would bake her treats to cheer her up. I promised her I would open up a bakery in her honour and I worked hard to make that into a reality for both of us”.
Crumbuns Bakeshop Cafe, offers a creative assortment homemade confections, baked goods, and a signature blend of premium coffee. A small variety of gifts suitable for visitors to the hospital will adorn the walls of the cafe. The Bakeshop is located on Concession Street, just blocks from where Joanne’s Granny lived for many years before her passing in 2010.
“We want people to walk through the door and immediately feel comfortable. We want people to come into the Bakeshop to sample some of our family recipes and feel at home. We want to be an important part of the neighbourhood. Granny would have liked that!”.
And the name Crumbuns? Is that a nod to Joanne’s favorite dessert?
“My Grandpa called my Granny his Crumbun her entire life. It was his term of endearment for her. Since I’d promised Granny I would open my own bakery, we named it after her, and put ‘Crumbuns’ on the menu”.
